Jurassic Park: Survival finally reveals its heroine and it makes you want

The wait around Jurassic Park: Survival continues to climband Saber Interactive has just added a key piece to the narrative puzzle of its future title. After a notable announcement in December 2023, the studio is today focusing on the one who will carry the adventure on its shoulders: and Dr Maya Joshi. It is not a simple generic avatar that players will embody, but a character physically and vocally embodied by the actress Payal Mistry. The latter spoke in a new trailer about the depth of this role and the way in which this scientist fits into the mythology of the saga created by Steven Spielberg.

A heroine linked to the heritage of the park

Maya Joshi’s profile is particularly intriguing for longtime fans. Far from being a lost tourist, she has a direct link with the origins of the disaster. Payal Mistry explains that her character was personally recruited by the famous Dr. Henry Wu to join the ranks of InGen. This storyline detail immediately anchors the game in the official lore of the franchise. But the heart of the experience will lie in the psychological evolution of the character in the face of horror.

The actual journey, Maya’s arc, is incredible. She was personally recruited by Dr. Henry Wu to become an InGen scientist and work at the park. Players will take on the role of Maya as she faces both terrifying dinosaurs and extremely tough challenges. And you’ll discover a lot about Maya throughout the process, emotionally and mentally.

The actress also admits to feeling a certain pressure, that of following in the footsteps of emblematic female figures of cinemano doubt echoing the impact Ellie Sattler had for Laura Dern in the original film. For Mistry, it’s about doing justice to a work loved by all while adding an inspiring personal touch.

Beyond the character, it is the temporal and spatial framework that promises total immersion. John Melchior, executive producer at Universal Products and Experiences, recalled that the action takes place in the aftermath of the events of the 1993 film. Maya Joshi was unable to evacuate the island and found herself left to her own devices. This premise allows the developers to make us revisit cult places like the Visitor Center or the T-Rex enclosure, but from a new angle, that of abandonment and destruction.

We worked with all stakeholders on what the island would have looked like after the events of the film. This includes areas we all love, like the Visitor Center and the T-Rex enclosure. But also what we didn’t see, things that weren’t part of the visit or that were cut off by the storm. Those who were on the island were supposed to spend the night there, so what does that mean? What would they have seen and where would they have stayed if everything had gone as planned? This is where we start from. One thing is certain: the island is as much a part of the story as the characters and the dinosaurs.

The title will focus on a mix of survival, infiltration and parkour, necessary to escape predators in a now hostile environment. While no release date has yet been communicated, Jurassic Park: Survival is expected on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
