Mecha BREAK launches Season 2’s new mechs and suggests possible co-op PvE modes

It’s been a little while since any major news came out of the team vs. team PvP mecha shooter Mecha BREAK, but that’s because the game has been in its first full season since last month. Well, the seasons are changing – or at least moving onward in numerical order – starting this week, as Amazing Seasun has taken the wraps off of Season 2: Echoes of the Void.

This latest season features a pair of new strikers in the form of Mikillja, a more grounded and melee-focused mech capable of transforming into a heavy shielded “chariot form” and charging into targets to swing its fists at robot faces, and Norne, a sniper that wields a massive longbow capable of firing rocket-powered arrows that can have their payloads swapped. Players can try these two new suits out by logging in and collecting trial permits for each striker as well as 10 free supply crates, while unlocking the chassis is done with earned seasonal tokens.

On top of the new characters to the mecha roster, Season 2 introduces several other goodies that can be unlocked within the season’s battle pass, including weapon skins, patterns, and a new outfit, while two unique pilots and their variant mechas are also on-hand in the cash shop. There are also events on tap that include weekend boosts to earnings every Saturday and Sunday, a set of missions for returning players, and the ability to test drive a previously released striker every week.

Before Season 2 went underway, the shooter’s producer Kris penned a letter to fans that both acknowledged the game not meeting most players’ expectations and some general plans to move forward. One of these plans is a “BREAK edition” that brings the shooter to PlayStation 5 and potentially introduces what read like co-op PvE-specific modes.

“Conversations with players have led us to reflect on whether Mecha BREAK truly fulfills players’ mecha game dreams. These discussions have shown us there’s still plenty to do to reach that goal, but no matter how long the road is, we’re committed to finding what truly makes a mecha game satisfying for more players.

“Is it piloting unstoppable warframes to defend global cities against endless enemy swarms? Is it teaming up with other players to dive into dangerous missions and take on various challenges? Is it piloting a fully customized Striker to face the unknown? Or… is it forging connections with other legendary pilots and writing a dramatic, space-opera romance? These are just some of the ideas we’ve discussed internally.”

To better determine which direction Mecha BREAK should go next, players are being asked to take part in a survey that will be open over the next four weeks. Kris does explain that the survey is lengthy, but also will be pivotal to “explore new directions” for the shooter, after which Amazing Seasun will digest responses and outline next steps, all while promising to be more communicative along the way. Accessing this survey can be done from an in-game menu, but Kris promises that it will be available on the game’s website and via social media soon as well.

Finally, Kris points out the upcoming half-anniversary that will be on the horizon, which promises “a large-scale online event, possibly featuring a new gameplay mode,” as well as internal development of a “multiplayer battlefield” that hopefully will involve player tests in the near future.
