Zoë Më, the Swiss candidate for the ESC, sang five pieces on Monday evening in the RSI studios in Lugano. Among the five: “Voyage”, with which she will compete on May 17 in Basel, but also “Normal”, which evokes her neighbor suffering from Down syndrome.

The two songs aroused the enthusiasm of some 130 spectators present in the studios of the Radio-Television of Italian Switzerland (RSI). The Swiss hopeful for this year’s Eurovision Song Contest (ESC) started the evening smoothly and with great emotion in Studio 2 of the RSI in Besso, above Lugano.
After “Stilles Lachen”, which Zoë Më sings exclusively in German, followed “Liste des forbidden”, presented in German and French. Asked about her experiences in southern Switzerland, the singer-songwriter recalled that she once played in Lugano as a “passer” with her Power Cats volleyball team.
The artist, born in Basel, had nevertheless prepared a sentence in the language of Dante: “Sono felice di essere qui” (I am happy to be here), said Zoë Më, which earned her applause. She couldn’t say more, her Italian being tinged with a strong German accent.
Reflection on the term “normal”
The audience, of very varied ages, was particularly enthusiastic about the song “Normal”. The singer-songwriter dedicates it to her neighbor with Down syndrome, whom Zoë Më describes as “the most extraordinary person” she has ever met: “Wherever you are in the crowd, I will always see you,” says the last line of this sensitive song.
The song “Voyage”, intended for the Eurovision contest, was also very applauded. Asked about her goals for the evening of the show, Zoë Më said that she will give a lot of herself in this big moment and that it will be “moving”.
