The Milan-Cortina organization unveiled on Thursday the first outlines of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, which will take place on February 6, 2026, through a video on social networks. The common thread? “Harmony”, that between “the city and the mountains”, between “humans and nature”, between “men, arts and cultures”, between “tradition and the future. »
In the video, we see several references to the culture and history of Italy, but also to music, with a cellist and a pianist. “Harmony is the ability to transform our values into shared images, sounds and emotions. It is a journey into the true colors of Italy: its art, its creativity, its humanity,” underlined Marco Balich, responsible for the opening ceremony.
A first prestigious guest has already been announced: it is Matilda De Angelis, Italian actress and singer, who notably played in the film “Dracule” of Light Twin. “She will be one of the narrative voices of the show,” specifies the organization.
A show at San Siro… but not only that
The opening ceremony will officially take place at San Siro, the legendary stadium of AC Milan and Inter. But “celebrations and symbolic moments will take place throughout the city and at the Olympic venues. The objective? “Spread the Olympic spirit beyond the stadium, by involving the public and the athletes in this great celebration,” details the official Olympic website.
In the video published this Thursday, it is also indicated that a message of peace will be broadcast in four places iconic to the Italian spirit. The Olympic rings fly over the famous Misurina Lake, located northeast of Cortina, at an altitude of 1,754 meters, but also the “Duomo” – Milan Cathedral – and the Vittorio Emanuele II gallery.
The traditional delegation parades “will take place in Predazzo, Livigno and Cortina d’Ampezzo, involving the athletes in their places of competition,” indicates the organization.
Two sinks for the first time
The 2026 Winter Olympics also boast of lighting two Olympic cauldrons for the first time in history: the first will take place in Milan, at the Arco della Pace, the triumphal arch located northwest of the epicenter. The second in Cortina d’Ampezzo, in Piazza Dibona, in the heart of the resort.
