DJI has launched its new camera Osmo Action 6, the first to include variable aperture up to f/2.0 ensuring quality image capture even in low-light environments and closer video selfies, as well as the custom 1/1.1-inch square CMOS sensor, all in a compact body with professional photography features.
The company has announced the characteristics of its new all-in-one action camera that expands the options of its camera series with tools designed to offer new creative recording possibilities for usersin addition to setting a “new standard” for action photography.
Specifically, the new Osmo Action 6 stands out from the rest of action cameras because it leaves behind the traditional fixed aperture design in this type of device, to include options for variable apertureso that they adapt to “a wide variety of scenarios.”
Specifically, it has an opening that offers a range between f/4.0 and f/2.0the latter being the maximum aperture, which allows more light to enter the sensor and, therefore, enables the capture of higher quality images in low-light environments.
Furthermore, with the automatic modethe camera offers different adaptive aperture range options. This means that the aperture is adjusted autonomously within each range to ensure the sharper results Depending on the scene, whether it’s bright, detailed landscapes or night scenes.
It also offers other options for creative content like star effect modewith which, according to DJI, the lights transform into starbursts as the exposure increases.
As for the sensor that equips the new Osmo Action 6, it is a new 1/1.1 inch square CMOS sensor custom designed, which has large 2.4 micron fused pixels and offers up to 13.5 stops of dynamic range to “achieve sharp details in high contrast environments,” as DJI explained in a statement.
Recording options and custom 4k mode
Following this line, this sensor also supports Video recording up to 4K resolution at 120 fps in a 4:3 aspect ratio. Additionally, with a larger sensor, larger aperture, and advanced noise reduction technology, DJI’s new camera allows for Super night mode to capture video at 4K and 60 FPS in low light conditions.
To all this we must add that it is capable of preserving the details of the lights and shadows, thanks to the DJI 10-Log M color systemwhich offers “greater flexibility in post-production”, as the firm has pointed out. Users can also access the D-Log M preview, which appears on the camera screen, to control color and exposure in real time.
The company has also reflected that, with the custom-designed square sensor, the Osmo Action 6 offers the new 4K Custom modewhich allows you to record all the content and trim it later in post-production to frame it in the most appropriate way, whether it’s vertical u horizontalto share it on social networks or on other types of platforms that require another format.
Continuing with the recording options, the camera also natively supports slow motion recording up to 4K/120 fps and, in addition, it can generate a reproduction Super Slow Motion intelligentlycreating “shocking high definition” images.
Pro-grade capture features
In addition to everything mentioned, DJI has noted that the Osmo Action 6 also offers other professional-level capture tools, such as RockSteady 3.0/RockSteady 3.0+, HorizonBalancing and HorizonSteady stabilization modeswhich reduce camera shake and correct tilt.
On the other hand, the 2x lossless zoom allows users to get up to 2 times closer to what they want to record without compromising 4K quality and, with the tool movie toneallows you to customize video colors with a choice of six built-in film tones.
Another option that includes is the portrait modewhich intelligently detects and prioritizes the target being recorded, to optimize exposure and achieve natural skin tone results.
Finally, it is a camera with lens centering and tracking technology, so that it intelligently tracks what is being recorded to automatically keep it in the center of the frame.
The technology company has also presented a macro lens accessory for the Osmo Action 6, which allows you to create close-ups with high sharpness, by reducing the minimum focusing distance from 35 to 11 cm. Likewise, to obtain panoramic images, DJI offers the Osmo Action 6 FOV magnification lensalso as an accessory, which automatically switches to FOV Boost mode and expands the field of view from 155 degrees to 182 degrees.
Other features
As an action camera, the Osmo Action 6 has been designed to be ready for any activity, be it skiing, cycling, mountaineering or diving. Thus, for moments in the mountains or other extreme environments, the Osmo Action 6 is resistant to temperatures down to -20 degrees.
On the other hand, it has an index IP68 water resistanceallowing submerged use up to 20 meters without case and up to 60 meters with the case waterproof. In addition, it has an integrated color sensor, which guarantees true-to-life underwater colors, while the pressure gauge records the dive data.
Regarding the battery, it has four hours of autonomy durationas well as a fast charging option with which it reaches the 80 percent in 22 minutes. Likewise, it also integrates a 50 GB internal memory.
In addition to all this, it also has gesture control options and, in terms of sound, it offers Support for up to two DJI microphone transmitters at the same time, guaranteeing quality audio without the need for a receiver. However, it has three built-in microphones with an AI-powered noise cancellation algorithm.
The new Osmo Action 6 is now available for 379 euros in the standard pack. Likewise, DJI has also launched it in an Osmo Action Adventure pack, which includes two external batteries, a quick release adapter bracket, a fixing screw, a multifunctional case and an extendable arm, for 479 euros.
