Umamusume: Pretty Derby Character Tier List (December 2025) – The Best Trainees, Ranked

After guiding your favorite trainees to the top in Career, Umamusume: Pretty Derby allows you to aim for the stars and reach even greater heights by competing in both PVE and PVP competitions.

But as you can expect from the game’s massive cast, it was a given that some runners would have an edge in competitive play, right? So you can see where your oshi stands and whether or not the newcomers are must pulls, here are all of the trainees in Umamusume: Pretty Derby, ranked.

Umamusume: Pretty Derby Trainee Tier List

As you can see below, we decided to divide our Umamusume: Pretty Derby Trainee Tier List into three sections, going from S to B, while taking into account each character’s initial attributes (three stars), bonus training values, aptitudes, and their skill selections at max potential. Before you dive in, keep in mind that even if our S-tiers will have a way easier time getting there, all characters in Umamusume can be more than competitive if paired with the right support cards and Veterans. After all, there’s no such thing as a bad trainee, only an unprepared trainer.

S-Tier, Explained

Spearheaded by Oguri Cap herself, the S-tier is the home of the best of the best, known for being at the top of the food chain via the power of their default kits (with many providing a good mix of top-tier performance and recovery skills). Their combo of high versatility and meta attribute boosts also makes them extremely straightforward to train, no matter if you want an ace for specific Champions Meetings or standard Team Trials.

A-Tier, Explained

In the A-Tier, we have trainees who, although just as competitive as the above when in their preferred builds, demand a bit more work due to either less impactful (or too specific) Unique Skills or a lack of competitive Rare (or Golden) picks. A great example of that can be seen in Agnes Tachyon, who, despite having an edge via her +20% SPD and multifacet Unique, lacks Rare performance-boosting skills. Emperor’s Path Symboli Rudolf is another racer that almost scratches the tier above via her ability to pair Behold Thine Emperor’s Divine Might with a guaranteed Professor of Curvature.

The B-tier houses trainees known to possess skills that either do not synergize well with one another or are hard to trigger consistently (we’re looking at you, Rosy Dreams Rice Shower). They are also significantly harder to optimize without specific Support cards/Veterans. But don’t take things at face value here, as many can also be considered meta when looking outside of the box. The best example? Nice Nature, aka one of the premier picks for the debuffer role in Champions Meeting (PVP).
