Over 10.5 Million Concurrent Players Show Up for Avengers: Endgame-Esque Fortnite Event 1

A lot is made of concurrent player numbers on Steam, but we rarely get data across all storefronts and platforms.

Free-to-play juggernaut Fortnite gave us a peek into how big it is this weekend, though, when it announced that 10.5 million concurrent players logged in to play its Avengers: Endgame-esque Zero Hour event.

For those of you who don’t play the Epic outing, the game will often start new in-game chapters with giant set-piece spectacles, available in-game at a specific time.

This one wrapped up the recent The Simpsons mini-season, and basically saw dozens of pop culture characters facing off against a giant demon.

That included King Kong, a kaiju-sized Homer Simpson, and even Hatsune Miku riding on top of Godzilla. If you didn’t play it for yourself, you can watch it blow.

Chapter 7 is now underway featuring a new Hollywood-inspired island. As part of the lore, the Battle Bus has been destroyed, meaning you’ll be surfing into each match – at least temporarily.

There’s new loot and gameplay mechanics, including new ways you can stay in the game after being downed, including the ability to roll and even self-revive.

Leaks suggest a Call of Duty: Warzone-esque Gulag is also coming in a future update, where you’ll engage in minigames like Rock Paper Scissors to respawn.

As this Fortnite, expect many changes and alterations over the course of the season to keep things feeling fresh.

In the meantime, though, let us know what you think of the new island and this weekend’s event in the comments section below.
