Funcom has officially revealed the first details for Chapter 3, the next major free update coming soon to Dune Awakening, its open-world survival game inspired by Frank Herbert’s legendary sci-fi universe and the blockbuster films from Denis Villeneuve and Legendary Entertainment.
Set to be the biggest update since launch, Chapter 3 focuses heavily on expanding the endgame, addressing long-standing player feedback, and laying the groundwork for future content.

Chapter 3 Free Update: Bigger and Better Endgame
Many of Chapter 3’s changes are a direct response to community requests, particularly around progression after reaching tier 6. The update introduces deeper systems, more meaningful choices, and expanded options for both PvE-focused players and those engaging with other playstyles.
According to Joel Bylos, Creative Director on Dune: Awakening, the team has rebuilt core systems to ensure late-game players have more to strive for:
“We know players want a richer experience late in the game, and this update lays essential foundations for what’s coming next. We’ve rebuilt the Landsraad system from the ground up, added new ways to earn rewards whether you play solo or in groups, expanded faction ranks, and introduced the new Specialization system.”
Chapter 3 also introduces new overland locations featuring fresh missions, alongside repeatable Testing Stations with escalating difficulty tiers that reward players willing to push themselves further.
Combat Improvements and New Weapons
Combat sees several refinements in Chapter 3, with balance improvements and new tools for players to master. New additions include:
- Dual Blades
- Pyrocket
- A full Rapier rework
Story-focused players won’t be left behind either. Chapter 3 continues the main narrative directly from where Chapter 2 ended, adding several more hours of story-driven survival gameplay.
Raiders of the Broken Lands DLC
Launching alongside the free update is Raiders of the Broken Lands, a paid DLC included at no extra cost for Season Pass owners. The DLC answers one of the community’s most frequent requests: more building options.
Players can expect:
- 73 new building pieces
- 17 decorations inspired by Imperium smugglers
- A dedicated stillsuit set
- New light and heavy armour sets
- Weapon variants, swatches, and emotes
The DLC is priced at $9.99 or available as part of the Season Pass for $24.99 / €24.99.
Steam Sale and Release Details
To coincide with the announcement, Dune: Awakening is currently available with a 35% discount as part of the Steam Winter Sale. This marks the biggest discount the game has received since launch, making it an ideal time for new players to prepare for the upcoming content drop.
Chapter 3 will be released as a free update for all players, with Raiders of the Broken Lands launching alongside it.
