On the cusp of the release of his next film, the director of Predator: Badlands shares his dream of seeing the franchise be adapted into an action-adventure game one day.
In a little less than two weeks, the world of Predator will make its big return to the cinema with Predator: Badlandsa new film by Dan Trachtenberg. Newly arrived on the franchise, the director of the excellent Prey will return to the helm for the second time, having in the meantime co-signed the production of the animated film Killer of Killers earlier this year. And at the dawn of the release of his new film, the creator dreams of only one thing: an adaptation of Predator Uncharted or to the Assassin’s Creed eventually sees the light of day.
An Uncharted-style Predator game? Dan Trachtenberg in a dream!
Indeed, interviewed by IGN on the occasion of the IGN Fall Fan Fest 2025, Trachtenberg did not fail to point out to what extent he himself is a great gamer. This is why he hopes today more than ever that a publisher will eventually take over Predator and make it a real “third-person action-adventure game, like Uncharted, Assassin’s Creed, or those kinds of open-world games”. “There is so much fun to be had playing Predator” he assures on this subject. “I hope it happens”.
For the record, Trachtenberg also revealed that he himself had designed a level for a Predator game when he was little, as part of a competition organized by GamePro magazine. “I loved GamePro, and the editorial team had a competition to design a level that would then be published in the magazine” explains the director. “I submitted my application, and I designed a level for a Predator video game, which was just copying Contra. But I was not selected” however, he specifies.
During the interview, Trachtenberg expresses his regrets about having “missed the Concrete Jungle boat”Eurocom title released in 2005 on PS2 and Xbox. That said, with a metascore of 47 on Metacritic, the director of Predator: Badlands certainly didn’t miss anything. Now, there is no doubt that many players would be delighted to have a big budget Predator game in the style of Uncharted or Assassin’s Creed. But if you don’t have one at the moment, it’s still possible to immerse yourself in Hunting Grounds, the asymmetrical multiplayer game from IllFonic released in 2020.
