Tour operator TUI Belgium sold a third more ‘last minute’ trips than last summer, according to its summer holiday report on Friday.
A fifth of customers who booked a trip through TUI in the last two months did so to depart within the next two weeks. 8% of customers even traveled directly during the week, double compared to last summer.
As for Neckermann Belgium and Thomas Cook (which belong to the same group), we have also noticed an upward trend for this type of travel. Reason given by the group? The absence of a major football competition and average weather to start the summer.
Including all kinds of travel, it was Spain in particular that attracted TUI customers (28%), then Greece (22%), Turkey (17%), Tunisia and Egypt. These five countries also appear at the top of the destinations chosen by Thomas Cook and Neckermann.
